This is because those who receive SSDI can still get a monthly check courtesy of the Social Security Administration. Do you qualify for one of these checks?
Social Security pays monthly benefits to people who are entitled to receive them through SSDI.
These benefits for disability are not only paid to the worker, though. Certain members of the family-spouses and children-will also be entitled to a monthly payment based upon the record of the worker.
SSDI versus SSI: know the difference SSDI is tied to your work history. It pays benefits to you and certain members of your family if you:
Have a disability and You worked long enough and paid Social Security taxes in years when employed to enable you to qualify.
You don’t need a work history to get SSI. The program provides money needed for basic needs such as food, clothing, and housing if you’re age 65 or older or have a disability.
In fact, the Social Security Administration reports that for July 2024, the average payment for eligible spouses is about $421, while eligible children receive, on average, $491.
What is the typical SSDI benefit amount for disabled workers?
The most current Monthly Statistical Snapshot for July 2024 showed that recipients of Disability Insurance receive an average payment of approximately $1,538.
Actually, this is higher than the previous report given for June.
A portion of SSDI recipients could have been eligible for the highest disability benefit in 2024. That would mean they could receive up to $3,822 this year.
- Here is how one qualifies to receive $3,822 from SSDI:
- having a qualifying disability
- recipients must have worked for 35 years
- must have jobs covered by SSA
- must have filed when SSA allows to get the full amount
- must have earned the taxable maximum for 35 years
Dates of SSDI payments to employees, spouses, and kids
Whether you’re a worker, a spouse, or children, due dates for Disability Insurance are the same. There are 3 paydays in the month of September that will begin for disability beneficiaries.
Example: If you’re born between the first and the tenth of the month, your payment date will fall on the 11th of September. The later your birthday falls within the month, the later the payment date will be.
Individuals born between the 21-31 of any month will receive the last SSDI payment on September 25. Between the two dates, September 18 will be a Disability Insurance payment.
Of course, your birth date just has to fall between the 11th to the 20th, regardless of the month. Those on SSI and SSDI would have their respective next payments on October 1 and October 3.
